Zanita Spencer Collins, 103 years old of Rumney, NH died at the Hospice House in Concord Friday, September 27, 2013.
Born on July 13, 1910, in Plymouth, NH, Zanita was the sixth of eight children of Louis and Mabel Spencer.
After her graduation from Plymouth Normal School in 1929 she began her teaching career at the one-room Turnpike School on Route 3A in Plymouth, NH and ended with her retirement in 1973 at the two-room Bridgewater School.
Zanita was predeceased by her husband, Richard Collins, and her son, Arnold Collins, and all her siblings.
Zanita loved to travel and had the joy of trips throughout the world to Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Egypt, England, Wales, Hawaii and Alaska. With her husband, Richard, she crossed the USA in a camper. Gardening was another passion of hers and people who traveled Route 25 from Rumney to Plymouth could often see her tending her flowers and for years they have enjoyed her beautiful garden.
Zanita touched innumerable lives and her gentle, caring presence will be greatly missed.
Zanita is survived by her daughters Carole Salyer of Bow, NH and Lois Kerr of Rumney, NH and her foster daughter Evelyn Berg of Plymouth. She has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be held on Tuesday, Oct 1 from 6 to 9 pm at Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St. Plymouth, NH. A funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct 2 at 10:30 am at Plymouth United Methodist Church, 334 Fairgrounds Rd. Plymouth, NH. The Rev. John Blair will officiate. Burial will be held in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Plymouth, with a reception to follow.
