Yvette M Johnson

LACONIA---Yvette Johnson, (87), died on February 27, 2016 at the Belknap County Nursing Home. She was born January 27, 1929, in Berlin, N.H., and moved to Whitefield when she was four. She was the daughter of the late Esimaire and Bertha (Marquis) Thibeault. She graduated from Whitefield High School in 1947 and attended college for two years. She married James Johnson in 1951 and raised a son and a daughter. She lived in the Lakeport and Gilford area since 1956. She loved New Hampshire, its mountains and lakes, and especially Gilford Village. She worked for 10 years as the bookkeeper for the Laconia School Lunch Program and for a number of years at Sanitary Cleaners.

Yvette lived an active life. She loved walking, bicycling, snowshoeing, observing nature, sewing, and doing various kinds of needlework. She had sung most of her life in glee clubs, choirs, early on in the NH Music Festival Chorus and other musical groups in the area, and the Gilford Community Church Chancel Choir.

She had been an assistant Girl Scout leader. She was an active member of the Gilford Community Church. She had been on the church's Stewardship Committee and was the church representative to the area Church Women United. She was a life member of the Thompson Ames Historical Society and had served for a time as the Society's Historian. She was an active member of the Gilford Public Library and had been a volunteer there. She had also been a volunteer at Lakes Region General Hospital.

Yvette had been a lifelong avid and eclectic reader and learner. One of her favorite sayings was "Life is an adventure, no matter what!"
She is survived by her son James and his wife Marie of Littleton, Colorado, and her daughter Terri and her husband Philip Haskell of Holderness, N.H. She is also survived by a number of nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her parents and by her brother Robert Thibeault.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to the Gilford Community Church, 19 Potter Hill Road, Gilford, NH 03249.
