Mr. William (Bill) I. Wilkinson, 91, died on April 22, 2016 at Courville at Nashua, Nashua, NH. He was married for over 50 years to Geraldine (Gerry) R. (Marshall) Wilkinson who died in 2003.
Bill was born in Laconia, NH on July 1, 1924. He and his brother Bob skied for Laconia High School until they enlisted in the US Army during WW II. He served as a ski instructor for the 10th Mountain Division at Camp Hale in CO and later was deployed in North Africa. After the war and for the first years of his marriage to Gerry he worked for Coca Cola and Northern Ski Company in Laconia, NH, and was part of the Gilford Ski Club. He worked for New England Telephone and Telegraph in Laconia, Littleton, Conway and Plymouth, NH. After retirement he started his own telephone installation and repair business.
Bill was very involved in the town of Plymouth, serving on the Plymouth Parks and Recreation Commission. He was involved in the planning and building of the Fox Park ice rink. He was involved the building of the first ski jump and the scoreboard for the high school as well as setting up the announcer's booth. He faithfully followed Plymouth High football until he was well into his 80's. Bill was an active member of St. Matthew's Catholic Church where he served as a member of the parish council, greeter, usher and anything else that was needed. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Service to community and church were just what he did.
Bill is survived by his five children: Joyce McInnis of Nashua, NH, Richard (Rick) Wilkinson of Notre Dame, IN, Ronald (Ron) Wilkinson of Catonsville, MD, Randall (Randy) Wilkinson of Franklin, NH and Janice Walker of Myersville, MD; also 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and another on the way. Bill leaves behind his loving companion for the past 10 years, Lola Tillotson.
Bill was the last remaining child of Harold and Margaret Wilkinson of Gilford, NH. His siblings were Virginia Bates, Robert Wilkinson, Norma Wilkinson and Barbara Annis.
SERVICES: A wake service will be held at Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon Street, Plymouth, NH on Tuesday, April 26th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, April 27th at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, 11 School Street in Plymouth, NH. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the family plot in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, NH
