William (Bill) Maltzie of Franklin, NH passed away after a short illness on Sunday morning, March 24, 2024, at the age of 86.
Bill was born in Pennsylvania and predeceased by his parents, Mary Elizabeth and Crawford, his wife Patricia, and his brother John. He is survived by his sons, Scott and his wife Beth, of Boscawen, NH, Ted of Ashland, NH, and Keith and his wife Dorothy, of Mechanicsburg, PA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren of whom he was proud and loved very much.
He attended Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, NH and graduated from Greenwich High School in Greenwich, CT.
Bill was proud to serve in the New York Air National Guard in 1955, and United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958 on the U.S.S. Randolph aircraft carrier, where he saw active combat in Beirut, Lebanon. While in the service, he also traveled the Mediterranean Sea to Greece, Italy, and Spain. He was honorably discharged in 1963 after having received a Good Conduct Medal in 1958.
He retired as an insurance adjuster for Crawford and Company in Washington State, but also held positions as a line foreman at General Motors, Fisher Body Plant in New York, a restaurant manager, car dealership service writer, and assistant body shop manager. He was most proud of his ownership of the Whistle Stop Coffee Shop in Nederland, CO during the early 1980’s. While working at General Motors, he met and married Patricia, with whom they shared two children, Scott and Ted. Following her passing, Bill married Michele with whom they shared one child, Keith.
He was active in various church ministry opportunities including work with teens and outreach ministries.
Bill enjoyed boating, fishing, golf, NASCAR and short-track stock car racing. He attended races at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, White Mountain Motorsports Park, and many other short tracks around the country. He was most proud of his time and his affiliation with the Danbury Fair Speedway and the Southern New York Racing Association where he personally knew many of the drivers.
An avid oil painter, he produced many landscape paintings and enjoyed watching Bob Ross and employed many of his techniques in his paintings. He was especially proud of several mural paintings he did in churches in Colorado and Ossipee.
A private memorial service will be held for him in July at the Mayhew Funeral Home in Meredith, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation at
