William "Bill" Kelley

April 5, 1938 — June 21, 2015

William "Bill" Kelley, 77, of Beverly, formerly of Windham, N.H., died Sunday, June 21, 2015, after a long and courageous battle with leukemia.

He was born in Manchester, Conn., on April 5, 1938, the son of the late Thomas and Barbara Gould Kelley. After receiving his high school diploma in 1956, he went on to attend American International College, where he was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

He had been a resident of Windham, N.H., for 42 years before moving to Beverly, MA three years ago.

As an insurance industry pioneer, Bill worked for American Universal, Pearless, Commercial Union and Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation. He diligently worked his way from a claims adjuster to vice president of claims and retired as the president of Mt. Washington Assurance Corporation. He was an expert in high profile insurance claims as well as the innovator of the "Crash-Busters" mobile claims office for Plymouth Rock. He also served on several insurance boards and was chairman of the company he ultimately presided over.

As an avid boater and devoted family man, he and his family summered on Little Squam Lake in Holderness. It was at the cottage of five generations and his boat "Luck of the Irish," where he spent his happiest days creating memories with his extended family and lifelong friends.

He was predeceased by his brother, David Kelley.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 wonderful years, Judith Hansen Kelley; his loving children, Megan Kelley Meek and her husband, David, of Beverly, William M. Kelley Jr. and his wife, Christine, of Stratham, N.H.; his cherished grandchildren, Taylor and Spencer Meek and Zachary and Jake Kelley; his brother, Thomas G. Kelley of Manchester, Conn.; brother-in-law, David L. Hansen, of Palm City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the MGH Cancer Center North Shore, 102 Endicott Street, Danvers, MA 01923
