William Mead Edney

August 13, 1948 — May 3, 2014

William M. Edney, 65, of Winona Road, Meredith, died suddenly on Saturday, May 3rd. Bill, as he was affectionately known, was a loving husband, brother, father, step-father, grandfather, and friend. He will be missed dearly.

Bill was born on August 13, 1948 in Concord, New Hampshire, the son of Thomas Edward and Lois Rae (Thompson) Edney.

Bill graduated from Concord High School in 1966. He served honorably in the United States Navy from 1967 to 1970 including two combat tours in Vietnam. Upon completing active duty, Bill studied at the University of New Hampshire before settling in New Hampshire.

Bill spent most of his life in New Hampshire and devoted himself professionally to public service, working as the Code Enforcement Officer of Newmarket and Durham, New Hampshire. In 2001, Bill settled in Meredith with his wife Sharon, where he served as the Code Enforcement Officer until his death. Bill immersed himself in the community which quickly grew to know him for the warmth and friendship he showed everyone he met.

Bill was a member of and participated in several community based organizations and charity events most notably the New Hampshire Building Officials Association and the Harvest Invitational Golf Tournament.

To his family and close friends, Bill was perhaps most well-known for his superb guitar playing, love of music, and culinary expertise. To know Bill was to know his appreciation for gathering family and close friends around good music and a delicious meal.

Bill adored his family. He will be sorely missed by his wife Sharon (Bennett) Edney of Meredith; his daughter Sarah Hamilton of Portsmouth; his daughter Erin Pasay of Madbury; his son Jason William Edney of Manchester; his son Ryan Edney of Greenland; his step-son Beau Phillips of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; his step-daughter Olivia Phillips of Meredith; three granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and three brothers, Thomas Edney of Payson, Ariz.; P. Michael Edney of Bow; and David Edney of Wakefield, Mass.
