PLYMOUTH--- It is with heavy hearts that we announce William M. Carpenter, 94, passed away peacefully at his home on November 20, 2025.
Born November 30, 1930, in Wentworth, NH to Maurice and Zelma (Randall) Carpenter, William (Bill, Billy, Carp, Uncle Bill, Dad, Grampa, Pa) lived a fulfilling life at his lifelong home he built in Plymouth, NH with his beloved wife, Hazel (Burnham) Carpenter and their four children. Bill married Hazel on June 23, 1951 and they were married 65 wonderful years until Hazel’s death on November 20, 2016.
Bill graduated from Plymouth High School in 1948. In his early years, he worked trucking logs and helping his parents on their dairy farm. In 1967, Bill began his long and dedicated career with the United Postal Service in Plymouth starting as a clerk and mail carrier. His commitment and strong work ethic led him to Assistant Post Master and later to Post Master, a position he proudly held from 1987 until his retirement in 1995.
Bill loved being outdoors whether he was haying the farm or hunting in the woods. He taught his two sons the love of hunting and it was something they enjoyed doing together every year. Bill also built homes for his children and grandchildren as well as putting in a mobile home park and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.
There was nothing Bill wouldn’t do to help a friend, family member or anyone in need; all you had to do was ask. If you needed help working on a tractor, plowing a driveway, fixing a leak, you name it, he was there. These skills and his generous nature he passed on to his children and beyond.
Bill was a devoted family man and his home was where you could always find the family gathering. Everyone who knew him considered him a friend and our family is forever shaped by the strength, warmth and steadfast love he gave so freely.
Bill is survived by his children Ronald Carpenter of Plymouth, NH, Linda and husband Dennis Gadwah of Plymouth, NH, Steve and wife Dee Dee Carpenter of Plymouth, NH and Brenda and husband Richard Inman of Campton, NH; his grandchildren, Sara and husband Terry Thielbar, Amy and husband Dave McKenney, Kelsey Gadwah and partner Mike Ouellette, Christopher Inman and Michael and wife Kim Inman; and his great-grandchildren, Caleb, Bennett, Serena, Sylvie, Hazel, Finley, Fletcher, Fay and Robin.
Visiting hours will be held 1-3 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2025, with a service to celebrate Bill's life to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Mayhew’s Funeral Home 12 Langdon Street, Plymouth, NH. Family and friends are invited to attend and share their memories. A private graveside burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, NH.
