Virginia Weeks Hatch

July 18, 1922 — July 16, 2019

Virginia Ethel Weeks Hatch, of Meredith, NH, passed away on July 16, 2019, just two days shy of her 97th birthday. She was born on July 18, 1922 in Meredith NH to Myrna (Copp) Weeks and Howard Frederick Weeks. She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Frederick Tasker Hatch, who passed in January of 2018. She is survived by her four children: Daniel, Daphne, Deborah, and Douglas, who all reside in California. Virginia (known to most everyone as Ginny) had three grandchildren (Brent, Caitlin, and Jenna), and three great-grandchildren (James, and twins Avery and Graham).

Ginny grew up in the Weeks long-time home on Red Gate Lane. She graduated from Meredith High School. Following that she obtained a degree from Lasell College in Newton, Massachusetts. At that time, she joined the work force for a brief period. She and Frederick were married in 1946. That began a long period of moves, including New York, Chicago, Denver, and ultimately California, where she and Frederick lived until Frederick retired and they returned to Meredith in 1987.

During their retirement in Meredith, Ginny was actively involved in many volunteer activities, including being President of the Visiting Nurses' Association in Meredith, a board member of the Meredith Historical Society, and a long-time volunteer at the Meredith Library. Ginny was an avid golfer most all her life and was a Member of the Waukegan Women's Golf League as well as the New Hampshire Women's State Golf League. Ginny had also served on the board of the Pacific Women's Golf Association during the 1970s.

Ginny and husband Fred were chosen Meredith Citizens of the Year in the mid-1990s. They both had a passion for the outdoors and were actively involved in many outdoor activities. Indeed, they had met on the ski slopes. They continued to enjoy both downhill and cross-country skiing for most of their lives. They also had a passion for hiking and canoeing. They traveled extensively across the U.S. (including many national parks), Europe and Asia. Ginny was also an avid gardener and an inveterate Red Sox fan.

A graveside service will be Friday, August 2, 2019 at 11:30 am at the Village Cemetery in New Hampton, NH. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Cathryn Turrentine from the Congregational Church in Meredith, NH.
