Thelma Lawson

Thelma "Blums" Lawson,93, a lifelong resident of Thornton, passed away peacefully in her home, with the help of family, the wonderful folks of Pemi-Baker Home Health and Mid-State Health. She had Alzheimer's Disease for many years but managed to feel lucky that she had it so good.

Thelma was born Nov. 22, 1926 to Carl and Adele Sargeant. She was the youngest of six children and had many fond memories of growing up on Mad River Road.

She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1944. Life was good with friends, dances and road trips to Hampton Beach. On one of these trips she met the love of her life, Ben Lawson.
Thelma married Ben on Nov. 19,1949 and had two daughters, Carol and Barbara. After a couple of years in Ben's hometown of Lowell, MA the young family moved back to Mad River Road to take care of her widowed mother. Thelma, Ben and Nana made a happy loving home with loads of laughs, good food and family gatherings. Thelma especially loved cooking. If there weren't any homemade treats when you stopped in she would whip something up while you were there and send you home with something fresh from the oven.
Thelma and Ben both worked at Drape Corporation in Beebe River for years and both retired from there. After retirement she worked for a few years at Campton Stitching and White Mountain Industries. She loved working and always felt lucky she was able to.

Thelma's greatest gift was spreading happiness. She was quite a clown and was known to make funny faces, wear kooky hats and crack jokes to get a laugh. She was the life of any gatherings and would bring the brownies and leave you laughing.

She genuinely loved her family, her friends and her life. Her life was not without its share of hard times, but Thelma always had a way to smile through any situation. She always said," no matter how bad we think things are, other people have it worse than us, and we should feel lucky." Everyone that knew her felt lucky to be part of her world.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bennett C. Lawson, her parents Carl and Adele (Simpson) Sargeant, siblings and their spouses, Carl Sargeant Jr. and his wife Emma, Helen (Sargeant) Dahood and her husband Mike, Kay (Sargeant) Sylvestre and her husband Mark ("Pete"), Lester Sargeant and his wife Ginny, Russell Sargeant and his wife Harriet and her son-in-law Robert Watson.

Thelma is survived by her children, Carol (Lawson) Meyers and her husband Gary and Barbara (Lawson) Watson. Her grandchildren, Sherry (Holt) Connolly and her husband Joe, Lori (Holt) Pieczarka and her husband Jody, Tina (Holt) Newcomb and her husband Tommy, Keven Shortt and wife Ashley and Jamie (Shortt) Heald and her husband Doug. Great grandchildren Crystal and Michelle Elliott, Ashley Zachary, Emily (Zachary) Torsey and her husband Jason, Steven Zachary, Cori, Danielle and Dillan Shortt, and Aiden Heald. Six great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and ex-spouses, who are still a part of the family.
