Obituary for Susan Mary Kenney
July 13, 1954 – December 27, 2024
Susan Mary Kenney, 70, passed away peacefully at her home on December 27, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. Born on July 13, 1954, Susan lived a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.
Growing up, Susan attended Inter-Lakes High School in Meredith, NH, and her connection to the lakes region remained a constant throughout her life. From her earliest days, she fell in love with "camp life" on the lake, where weekends as a child blossomed into a lifelong passion. As a young girl, Susan could often be found sitting on the big rock facing the lake, enjoying her favorite peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Later in life, she and her husband, Bruce, made the camp their home, planting vibrant flowers in the spring, listening to the loons return, and hosting summer fires on the beach under the stars.
Susan’s love for water skiing was unmatched, as was her devotion to the animals she adored—especially gorillas, her favorite. Her summers were filled with joy, whether exploring the ocean with Bruce, savoring time at the camp, or playing with her beloved grandchildren. She had an infectious laugh and a wicked sense of humor that could light up any room. She and her daughter, Angela, shared countless inside jokes and favorite movie quotes, a bond that brought them endless joy and laughter.
Susan also loved making Chex Mix every Christmas time, a tradition she cherished as a way to share a piece of her love with all of her family and friends. She dedicated so much of her time to supporting her children, especially Ricky and Justin, spending countless hours taking them to hockey practice while they were growing up. Additionally, she lovingly edited videos of their games, capturing memories that would last a lifetime.
A proud member of the American Legion, Susan found fulfillment in community and connection. Her deep love of family was evident in every part of her life, whether she was doting on her grandchildren, Charlotte and Eleanor, or sharing stories and laughter with her brothers, James, Fred, and Donald.
Susan is survived by her devoted husband, Bruce Kenney; her children, Richard Dearborn (spouse Amanda), Justin Dearborn (spouse Ellen), and Angela Bouley; her cherished grandchildren, Charlotte and Eleanor; her loving brothers, James Reed (spouse Elita), Fred Reed (spouse Laurie), and Donald Reed (spouse Diane); and many extended family members and friends.
She was predeceased by her mother, Charlotte Reed, her father, Fred Reed, and her brother, Steven Reed.
Calling hour for Susan’s service will be held at 12:00 PM on January 11, 2025, at Mayhew Funeral Home, 204 Daniel Webster Hwy, Meredith, NH 03253. A celebration of her life will follow at 1:00 PM, where friends and family can gather to honor her and share in her memory. In lieu of flowers, donations in Susan’s memory may be made to a wildlife organization of your choice, reflecting her love of animals.
