Steven H. Hiltz, 66, of Campton, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of February 1, 2021.
He was born in Plymouth, NH on September 14, 1954. He was the son of Herbert and Peggy Hiltz. Steve grew up in Ashland and as a teen worked for his father's auto dealership, Plant Motors Inc. where he developed his love of automobiles. He attended Ashland High School where he was heavily involved in the music department, including playing trumpet in the school band and singing in the choir. He went on to become a member of the local band, Emanon, where he was a singer and trumpet player. He began his career as a newspaper pressman at the Plymouth Record and was the general manager until its sale. Even though much of his career was spent in the newspaper business, music and automobiles continued to be his real passions. His final job at O'Reillys in Laconia hit that passion, where he was able to combine his love of cars and working with people. He also enjoyed his time with the Plymouth Community, especially being a part of the Main Street committee, helping with the River Front Festival, and winning an award for his website, Plymouth Interactive.
Steve had many interests, including local history, scuba diving, building model boats, restoring classic cars, and more. He loved live music, especially when it involved dancing with his wife. He enjoyed lively conversation and enjoyed sharing stories with anyone that would listen.
He is survived by his wife of almost 35 years, Donna Hiltz, with whom he proudly built a loving family which includes his daughter, Courtney Abbott and husband Will of Holderness, to whom he passed along his love of music, and his son, Daniel Hiltz of Plymouth, to whom he passed along his love of cars. He was the beloved Pop-Pop of his granddaughter, Ainsley Jo Abbott, and his future grandson. He was fortunate to have a large and loving family with sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews. Steve was a warm and welcoming person and considered many friends to be part of his extended family.
At this time there will be no service or calling hours. The family will host a Summer Celebration of Life, details to be announced at a later date.
