Shirley M. Shannon (Canoles), 87, of Laconia, passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.Shirley was born in White Marsh, MD, on October 24, 1922, the daughter of James E. and Julia (Wilson) Canoles.She attended local schools and graduated from Kenwood High School, Golden Ring, MD, and the Baltimore Business College, Baltimore, MD. During World War II she worked as an executive secretary at the Glen L. Martin, Co., of Middle River, MD, she was also a volunteer nurse's aide at the Church Home Hospital, of Baltimore.In 1947 she married Edgar F. Shannon and subsequently lived in Frederick, MD, East Longmeadow, MA, and Huntington Bay, Long Island, NY. In 1967 she became a summer resident of Moultonborough, NH, and in 1982 made New Hampshire her permanent home.At the time of her death she was a member of the First Congregational Church, of Meredith, The Humane Society, The Center Harbor Women's Club, Towson Chapter #70, O.E.S., and other animal and conservation organizations. She had been a member of Longmeadow Country Club, Longmeadow, MA for fifteen years and Bald Peak Colony Club, Melvin Village, NH for twenty-two years.She is survived by her two sons, Robert, of Plymouth, MA, and David, of Londonderry, NH; and two granddaughters, Kathleen and Kelly Shannon.Service:A memorial service will be held at the 1st Congregational Church of Meredith, on Friday, July 23, 2010 at 3:00 pm. The Rev. Russell Rowland, pastor, will officiate.Cemetery:Interment will be held at Holland Hill Cemetery, Moultonborough, and will be private.
