Shirley Louise Oliver

January 14, 1944 — October 11, 2015

Shirley L. (Walker) Oliver, 71, of Sheridan Road, Moultonborough, died Oct. 11, 2015, at her home, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Shirley was born January 14, 1944, in Newport, VT, the daughter of Donald L. and Mary Jane (Ducharme) Walker. She attended Sacred Heart School through grade 7 (1957) at which time the family moved to Rochester, NH, where she attended St. Mary's School and Holy Rosary High School, graduating in the class of 1962. Shirley worked for 3 years at Cate's Rexall Drug Store in Rochester before attending Notre Dame College, Manchester, NH, and Plymouth State College, Plymouth, NH, where she graduated with a BE degree in 1969.
Shirley was hired into the Gilford School District, Gilford, NH, where she enjoyed teaching her third and fourth graders. In August 1971, she married John J. Oliver of Moultonborough, NH, where together they raised their four children: Jonathan, Kara-Beth, Douglas, and David. During these years, Shirley also ran Red Hill Nursery School and Sunshine Kids Pre-school for several years, and was a substitute teacher in the Moultonborough School District. As a Christian, her passion was to help those in need; so in early 2000, she continued her education into counseling and prayer ministry, operating as Salt & Light Christian Center. She also worked part time as a local caregiver, assisting the sick and elderly in their daily routines. Shirley enjoyed reading, sewing, and cross stitch, and making things for her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her husband John Oliver, their sons Jonathan and David, Douglas and his wife Lauren of Moultonborough, and their daughter Kara-Beth and her husband Eric Dambaugh of NY. Shirley also had seven grandchildren: Jodi, Juliana, Noah, Brayden, Mateo, Zachary, and Jesse. Other family members were two brothers and their wives: Jim and Marilyn Walker, and Don and Shirley Walker of Orlando, FL; and nieces, nephews, and the Walker family cousins. Her family was the Joy of her life along with her Lord Jesus Christ!
The family expresses special gratitude to all of her many friends and church family who have been a wonderful support to her and her family.
