Russell Milan Gilman, 89, of Thornton, died February 22, 2018 at Golden View Health Care Center, in Meredith.
Born in Thornton, NH., on March 29, 1928, he was the son of Edwin and Edith (Russell) Gilman.
Russ grew up in Thornton and was a life long resident. He graduated from Plymouth High School, class of 1946.
Russell owned and operated several enterprises over the years including; Gilman & Sons, in Thornton, Gilman Outdoor Equipment, in Plymouth, and NH Coach and Camper in Rumney.
Russell served the Thornton community all his life. He served over twenty years as a selectman, member of the Thornton Planning Board and was Town Moderator. He was a life-long member of the West Thornton Grange #253.
Russell was a US Korea Army veteran.
Russell was predeceased by his daughter, Terry Emma Joyce, who died in May of 2015, his granddaughter, Jennifer Joyce and grandson, Brent Gilman.
Russell is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Ardelle (Benton) Gilman of Thornton, his children, Donna Killion and her husband John of Concord, Donald Gilman and his wife Juanita of Plymouth, Lee Gilman of Loudon, Elledra Presby of Lisbon, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, son-in-law, Walter Joyce of Thornton, brother Harry Gilman of Belair, MD, sister, Ruth Bolduc of Conway, nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth on Wednesday, Feb. 28th, from 3pm to 6pm. A graveside service will be held in the Mad River Cemetery, Thornton, on Tuesday, May 1st, at 11am. The Rev. Todd Reed will officiate.
