Rowena Louise Greene

September 30, 1925 — May 3, 2016

Rowena Louise Greene, 90, of West St., Ashland, died May 3, 2016, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 30, 1925 in Lincoln, NH., she was the daughter of Walter Charles and Ruby Olive (Wright) Hanson.

Rowena grew up in the Pemi Valley and graduated from Lincoln High School, class of 1943. She resided in North Woodstock and in New Hampton for many years. She has been a resident of Ashland for the past eight years.

Rowena worked for many years as a Licensed Practical Nurse at various health facility in the area, including, Golden View Health Care Center, in Meredith and privately for several families.

Rowena was a life-long member of the American Legion Post #98 Women's Auxiliary, in Merrimack, NH. and the Pemi Valley Church, Woodstock, NH.

Rowena was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Carroll Cleveland Greene, who died May 1, 1994, her son, Dennis Carroll Greene, who died in August of 2000, her brother, Roger "Buster" Hanson, and her sister, Delores Forcier.

Rowena is survived by her children, Susan Marie Jirkovsky and her husband Charles of Holderness, NH., Harvey E. Greene and his wife Yvette of New Hampton, NH., James W. Greene and his wife Ellen of Brooks, ME., Judith R. Ulrich and her husband George of Rumney, NH., Brenda L. Torsey and her husband Melvin of New Hampton, NH., twenty-three grandchildren, forty-seven great grandchildren, 13 great great grandchildren, her siblings, Jacqueline Marden and her husband Mark of Hollis, NH., Walter Hanson and his wife Greta of Laconia, NH., Betty Moore and Carroll Hanson, both of Campton, NH., many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St., Plymouth, on Friday, May 6th, from 6pm to 8pm. A graveside service will be held in the Woodstock Cemetery, NH Route #3, Woodstock, on Saturday, May 7th, at 10am. The Rev. John Muehlke, pastor of the Pemi Valley Church in Woodstock, will officiate
