MOULTONBOROUGH: Roland Stoner Young, (89), died suddenly at Lakes General Hospital on March 26,2016.
Roland was born on September 29, 1926 in Westminster, Maryland, the son of Walter and Mary Geiman Young. He was predeceased by; his sister Jenny and two brothers Walter and David, his first wife Caryl Rundquist. He attended schools in New Philadelphia, Ohio; Canton, Ohio; Chicago, Illinois; Lansing Michigan; and Michigan State University where he was a cheerleader and editor of the yearbook. In 1948, he became an employee of General Motors Corporation where he worked for 36 years. In 1950, he enlisted in the navy and served for 20 years advancing to the rank of commander. He flew F9F Panther jets off the USS Boxer and USS Champlain in the Korean War. He was recalled to active duty in 1961 during the Cuban Crisis. He married Caryl Rundquist in 1952 and they had four children; Polly, Kurt, Eric, and Scott. He has five granddaughters; Monika, Stephanie, Cecily, Greta, and Madison. In 1991, he married Paula (Moore) Britting and became a loving step father to Lorraine and Ken, and step grandfather to; Katherine and Jack.
He loved to sing around the Piano with his parents and sister and brothers and in numerous church choirs. He was a Sunday School Teacher, elder of the church, President of the PTO, Town Meeting Representative on the Finance Committee, and member of the Board of Directors of the Walpole, VNA, and Dover Council on Aging. He was member of the Center Harbor Congregational Church.
Rollie will always be remembered for his singing, especially of risqué Navy songs, his martini's, his amazing memory, his adventurous spirit, and devotion to his family.
