Richard "Dick" S. Mccormack
May 22, 1937 — March 23, 2014
Dick McCormack, 76, of Thornton, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, on Sunday, March 23, after a 6 year battle with multiple myeloma. Born in Holderness, NH on May 22, 1937, he was one of thirteen children of Albert and Alice (Davis) McCormack, of Holderness.
His favorite times were shared with his family; gathering for dinners, backyard BBQ's, and games. He planned and lovingly designed the family camp in Wentworth, and two primary family homes in Plymouth & Thornton.
Dick was a prominent small business owner in Plymouth for many years. He owned & operated McCormack Motor's Inc - The Working Man's Friend. In his early years, he was employed by the Draper Corporation, Norman Perry Lamp Company, and sold cars for various local car dealers before starting his own business in 1968. Dick was a member of the Plymouth Lodge of Elks #2312 for 50 years.
He was a friend to many, and he shared countless days hunting, fishing, skiing, snowmobiling and golfing with them. For the past nineteen years, he & Janet traveled south for the winter, originally spending time in Florida. They subsequently drove their 5th wheel travel trailer thru-out the US, visiting all 50 states, which also included a long drive to Alaska one summer; they then became snowbirds in Surprise, AZ, which is just outside of Phoenix. While in Arizona they developed many cherished friendships; Dick was recognized as the unofficial group gathering instigator which entailed happy hours, Friday golf league, playing cards, and many dances. One of his favorite activities was bocce ball matches.
He is predeceased by his eight siblings, brothers, "Buster", Ken, Bob, John, Tex, and Gene; sisters, Benny and Helen.
Dick is survived by his loving wife Janet, his best friend and partner of fifty seven years; his three daughters; Cam Lester, of Thornton, Candace Dullea, of Lincoln, and Cath Goodwin, of North Conway; son-in-laws, Jim Lester, Paul Dullea & Art Goodwin; grandchildren, Nate & Niki Dullea, Tyler & Sheyenne Lester; siblings, Hazel Messenger, of Peabody MA, Newell McCormack, of Gilford, Gordon McCormack, of Ashland, and Mary King, of Laconia, and several nieces and nephews thru out the north east.
In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Pemi-Baker Community Health Center, 101 Boulder Point Dr, Suite 3, Plymouth, NH 03264.
