Richard J Ryan, 93, of Meredith, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2024, after a brief illness.

He was born July 1, 1931, in Milton, MA, the son of the late Timothy Ryan and Marion (Jordan) Ryan. He attended Milton Public Schools, received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College in 1954 and a master’s degree in education from Boston University in 1963. He served his country in the United States Army in the Field Artillery Branch.

Dick began teaching in Braintree Public Schools and was a resident of Braintree for 65 years. He then went on to work in the Milton Public Schools as a Physical Education teacher, Coach and Director of Health, Athletics and Physical Education for over thirty years. He was a pioneer in establishing a variety of opportunities in the Bay State League for women’s athletics.

He loved spending time on and around Lake Winnipesaukee with family, friends and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing many sports, especially golf and racquetball.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Barbara (Boynton) Ryan; daughters Julie Labua (Len), Virginia Harrington (Don); son David Ryan (Annette), ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday December 21 at 11:00am at St. Charles Borromeo Church in Meredith, NH.
