Richard "Dick" Joseph McNeil Sr., 81, of Meredith, died August 29, 2017 at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 5, 1936, he was the son of Douglas J. and Rose (Naser) McNeil.

Dick grew up in Boston and attended Boston English High School. He was a resident of Dorchester, MA. for many years. He was a summer resident of Meredith for many years, before moving here permanently over thirty years ago.

Dick worked as an electrician most all his life. He owned and operated McNeil Electric, in Dorchester, MA and in Newton, MA.

Dick was a member and an employee of the Waukenwan Golf Club, in Center Harbor, NH., and a member of the Profile Seniors Golf Club.

Dick was an avid motorcyclist and loved to travel, spending time in Bermuda, Disney, and Myrtle Beach, SC.

Dick was predeceased by his son, Richard J. McNeil Jr., his daughter, Judith McNeil, and a brother, William McNeil.

Dick is survived by his wife, Barbara L. McNeil of Meredith, his sons, Robert D. McNeil of Dorchester, MA., Michael P. McNeil of Meredith, NH., four stepchildren, Alex W. Gumbs, Brent A. Gumbs, Trever C. Gumbs, Anya L.D. Gumbs, all of Meredith, five grandchildren, Jacqueline, Alexa, Kristin, Joseph, and Jenna, brother, Douglas McNeil, sisters, Shirley Moleon, Rosanne Spinale, Linda O'Shea, all of Norwood, MA., many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 204 Daniel Webster HWY., Meredith on Friday, Sept. 1st, 5pm to 8pm. A Liturgy of the Word Service will be celebrated in the Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 300 NH Route #25, Meredith, on Saturday, Sept. 2nd, at 10am. The Rev. Richard Thompson will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in the Meredith Village Cemetery, Meredith, NH.
