Richard Frederick Lipman, 79, passed away on August 29, 2017. His final moments were peaceful and in the presence of his loving family.
Rich was born May 6, 1938 in New York City to Arthur and Carol Lipman. He grew up in the Bronx in New York, Drexel Hill and Aldan, Pennsylvania, and Natick, Massachusetts. He graduated top of the class at Natick High School before attending University of Massachusetts-Amherst and working as an electrical engineer with New England Telephone/Nynex/Bell Atlantic. He spent much of his adult life in Framingham, MA and Wentworth, NH.
Rich devoted his free time to music. He played the tuba with the Baker Valley Band, and sang tenor with the Pemigewasset Choral Society and the Plymouth Congregational Church Senior Choir. He delighted in puns and wordplay, composing clever lyrics commemorating the life events of family and friends, and brought smiles and laughter as he sang these and other playful folk songs. Rich was also an avid fisherman and could be found with his boat out on Lakes Tarleton or Stinson on many summer days, as well as lakes in Maine and Massachusetts in years past.
Rich or "Poppy," as he was known by much of his family, is survived by his wife Donna Lipman, his five daughters and their spouses and partners Joanne and Jon Levy, Rebecca and Andrew Brodie, Peggy and Geoff Keith, Marlaina and Etta O'Reilly, and Hannah Lipman and Drew Zebley; brother Arthur Lipman and wife Judy; twelve grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many caring friends.
His loved ones will miss him dearly, though they are comforted knowing his struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's is over.
