MEREDITH --- Richard Alton Ennis, born September 12, 1943, quietly passed away on Veteran’s Day, November 11, 2025, in his Meredith home looking out over the lake. He spent his last few days surrounded by friends and family.

His early years were spent in Montclair, New Jersey, with his parents William Alton and Bernice Kent Ennis. He went to elementary school in Bloomfield and graduated high school at Montclair Academy in 1961.

He met his future wife, Marjorie Moore, vacationing on Cape Cod in the summers. They wed on August 20, 1966, and remained married for 53 years until Marj passed away in 2019.

Rich graduated from the University of Maine in Orono in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration. He immediately joined the US Navy as a supply officer serving on the USS Beatty (DD-756) and was honorably discharged in 1969 as a Lieutenant.
The young couple settled in Derry, NH to begin their family, and then in 1977, they moved to Canterbury, NH, where their family continued to grow. Rich and Marj both came from small, single child households, so they knew that they wanted to have a big family. They had four children: Christopher, Scott, Michelle, and Laura.

Rich went to Bentley College after his time in the service and became a CPA working for the accounting firm of James A. Shanahan. He was then hired by The Manchester Bank as an Assistant Controller but soon became Controller. A couple years later he was promoted to Vice President-Administration and Control. He would then move on to Associated Grocers of New England where he spent the bulk of his career as CFO.
In retirement, Rich and Marj spent summers at their lake house and winters in Winter Haven, FL. Rich loved to watch all sports; whether it was rooting for the Boston teams or attending sporting events for his children and grandchildren, his booming voice could be heard reacting to each play. In his free time he loved golfing, downhill skiing, and boating on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Richard is survived by his beloved dog, Hector and his four children and their families: Christopher and Traci Ennis (with children, Kayli Ennis, Emily Ennis, and Zachary Ennis), Scott and Kristie Ennis (with child, Brody Ennis), Michelle (Ennis) and Mark Clarner (with children, Elizabeth Clarner, Matthew Clarner, Andrew Clarner, and Hannah Clarner), and Laura (Ennis) Pabon (with children, Alexis Pabon and Julianna Shaw).

His Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m. ET, Saturday, November 29, 2025, at the Canterbury United Community Church in Canterbury, NH.
