Richard Lee Downing Jr, 78, of Libbey Road, Wentworth, died August 16, 2018, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Hospital, in Lebanon, NH, after a period of declining health.
Born in Plymouth, NH. on July 22, 1940, he was the son of Richard L. Sr. and Elsie (Krahenbruhl) Downing.
Richard was a life-long resident of Wentworth and a graduate of Orford High School, in Orford, NH, class of 1958.
Richard worked as a self-employed farmer with his father on the family farm for many years. He also worked for many years, as a dynamite foreman for the Palazzi Construction Company, in
Hooksett and for Rochester Shoe Tree, in the maintenance department, until his retirement in 2008.
Richard was a US Air Force Veteran and was stationed in Germany, Spain and Africa.
Richard was an avid Red Sox fan!
Richard was predeceased by his brothers, Robert Downing and Charles Walker.
Richard was survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Janet M. (Dyke) Downing of Wentworth, his children, Stephen L. Downing of New York City, NY, Amy J. Downing and her partner Christine Stymus of Wentworth, Christine M. DeLangie and her husband John of Auburn, NH, 2 grandsons, Maxwell and Luke DeLangie, a sister, Shirley Zeigler and her husband Gaylin, of Discovery Bay, CA, many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held in the Wentworth Congregational Church, 38 Wentworth Village Road, on Tuesday at 11am. The Rev. Margaret Bickford, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in the Foster Cemetery, in Wentworth.
Memorial donations may be made to the Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department, 16 Mica Mine Road, Wentworth, NH. 03282
