Raymond Clinton Mayes

October 19, 1945 — May 2, 2016

Raymond Clinton Mayes of Campton, NH, passed away at the age of 70, on May 2, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

Born on October 19, 1945 and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, Ray then met Evelyn Gosney and became like an older brother to Evelyn's brothers and sisters. Ray was an Army veteran with honorable service in Vietnam in Artillery battery attached to the 25th Inf Div. Ray and Evelyn married April 15, 1967.

After the birth of their children, they moved their young family to Colorado. They spent the next 27 years in Fountain, CO., where Ray worked in the Iron working industry. Ray also served in the Army Reserve at Fort Carson, CO. He was with the 10th Mountain Div. attached to 4th Mechanized Div.

Ray was an avid outdoors man enjoying nature with his family by fishing, hunting, and camping. He also enjoyed painting, carving, and making beautiful home-made gifts for his family and friends.

In 2002, Ray and Evelyn made the move cross-country to NH to be closer to their granddaughters. He was able to take his granddaughters fishing, camping, and just having fun and living life.

Ray is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn K. (Gosney)
Mayes, sons, Raymond Christopher Mayes, Scott Allen Mayes, Daughters in-law Christina (Clark) Mayes, Caroline Mayes. Granddaughters Emily R. Mayes, Jeannette M. Cheney, and Gillian C. Mayes. He is also survived by his family in Missouri, his Aunt Gail Maddux, and numerous cousins and second cousins.
