Raymond Holbrook, 94 of Thornton, fondly known as "Bud", died peacefully at home April 25, 2014 after a short illness.

He was born in Rockingham, VT February 22, 1920 and lived in Walpole, NH and St. Stephen, NB. At age 10, he came to Woodstock NH and grew up as a member of the Jesse Kendall family on the Mirror Lake Road. He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1938.

Bud learned mechanical skills while employed by Harry Steele. After working as a truck driver for Parker Young, he enlisted in the Army in February 1942. He served as a tank destroyer commander in the 605th Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater. Upon discharge in 1946, he returned to the Woodstock area and resumed employment at Parker Young/Franconia Paper Corporation. He worked for Waterville Company until 1982.

He held membership in the American Legion for more than 60 years. His home and surrounding property

demonstrated his attention to detail. Family has always been important, but seven chow-chows, over many years, were another great pride and joy for him. In 1988, he was one of the incorporators of Community Guaranty Savings Bank. Even though he never served on committees or in elected positions, he demonstrated concern for the future of the town of Thornton in other ways.

He was predeceased by parents Raymond A. Holbrook, Frances Towers Holbrook Bradbury, step-father Arthur Bradbury, and sister, Virginia Holbrook Holste.

Survivors are as follows: wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Benton) Holbrook, daughters Evie, with husband David Fitzmorris, Goldsboro, NC, and Jane Clay, with her husband Bob Clay, Plymouth NH. Grandchildren are Shawn and his wife Joell, and Robert and his wife Christine Fitzmorris, both of Goldsboro, NC, Bruce and his wife Melissa Clay, of Gilmanton, NH, Beth, and Scott Clay, Plymouth, NH. He was Grampa-Gramp to 6 great-grandchildren and Uncle Bud to many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St, Plymouth on Friday, May 2nd,

6-8 pm. A graveside service will be held in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 175, Thornton, NH on Saturday, May 17th, at 1pm. The Reverend John Blair will officiate.
