Ralph Leo Bartlett passed away peacefully on February 3, 2024.
Born in Baring, Maine, on November 12, 1937, Ralph was raised in Calais, Maine, and spent most of his life in New Hampshire. Ralph treasured memories of lakeside summer vacations with his brothers, sisters, and extended family in Maine, and he was an avid fisherman and gardener throughout his life. He taught the whole family to fish, and his love and pride for it will carry on through them. The family will remember his love for gardening when they find a perfectly hardy yellow rose and when the pansies bloom. He also enjoyed wood-working throughout his life, making his own kayak and constructing a cabin for the family in Vermont, and creating other treasured projects for family and friends.
Ralph felt very proud and thankful to have married the love of his life, Betty Campbell. In their 67 years of marriage, they shared a life of fun and adventure. Ralph and Betty spent much of their time enjoying the natural beauty of New England. Their marriage was strong example of love, commitment, and devotion to family, which influenced the values of their children and grandchildren. He was an equal partner to Betty in raising their children, Margaret, Ralph, and Lisa. As a father, he was good natured, caring, supportive, and fun loving. Ralph was a proud United States Coast Guard veteran, and felt privileged to have served upon the search-and-rescue cutter ships Duane and McCulloch. He later enjoyed a long career as a propane Service Technician and Inspector. When Ralph and Betty found themselves working opposite schedules, Ralph—ahead of his time—often assumed responsibility for preparing meals and entertaining the children. Whereas Betty was the rule maker, Ralph was the rule breaker, much to the delight of their children.
Ralph is predeceased by his wife, Betty Bartlett; daughter, Lisa Girouard; sisters, Dorothy Campbell and Ellen Johnson; and brother, Earl Bartlett. He is survived by his children Margaret Hayden and her husband Robert; Ralph Bartlett and his wife Amy; his son-in-law George Girouard; grandchildren Erika Hayden, Robert Hayden, Bo Dunham, Edward Girouard, Alyssa Bartlett, and Emma Bartlett; great-grandchildren Wyatt, Lucy, and Charlie; sisters Lillian “Lil” Tracy, Gertrude “Gertie” Johnston, and Wilma “Billie” Parks; as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
