Peter James Ruel, 51, of Daniel Webster Highway, died November 6, 2009 at Concord Hospital, Concord, with his wife, Dawn and family at his side, after a valiant struggle against cancer. Born in Laconia on June 26, 1958, he was the son of James and Diane [Mooney] Ruel. He grew up in Meredith and attended Meredith schools. He moved to Center Harbor, to build his home and raise his family, and has resided here most all his life. Peter started his career as a carpenter while working for the former Prescott Homes, in Meredith. He then started his own contracting business and has built many homes in the Meredith and Center Harbor area. In the 80's and 90's, Peter served as a volunteer fire fighter and then as chief for the Center Harbor Volunteer Fire Department, Center Harbor. When Pete crafted a home or renovated one, he poured his heart and soul into each and every project. He was very generous with his work, often doing more than required to create a beautiful home for the owners. Peter had a big heart and his door was always open. He was very generous and helpful to many people when they were in tough straights. He is survived by his wife, Dawn [Paulsen] Ruel, of CenterHarbor, sons, Wesly Ruel, Jason Ruel and his wife Jessica, all of Center Harbor, grandson Dylan Byron Ruel, expected grandson, Matthew James Ruel, his parents, James L. and Diane M. [Mooney] Ruel of Meredith, brothers, Alan Ruel and partner Becky Whitcher, and Patrick Ruel, both of Meredith, sisters, Michelle [Mitzi] Wright and husband Frank of Melrose, MA, Ann Marie Beauchemin and husband Mark, Jane Allen and husband Brian, both of Meredith, nieces , nephews, mother-in-law, Hope Paulsen, brother-in-laws, Kenneth Paulsen and spouse David Valentine, Dale Paulsen, former wife Jayne Ruel of Center Harbor, and his dog, Katie. Visitation: Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, Routes #3 and #104, Meredith, on Tuesday 6pm to 8pm. Service: A graveside service will be held in the Meredith Village Cemetery, Wednesday at 12pm. The Rev. Edward J. Charest, pastor of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, will officiate.
