Peggy Mae Carter, 76, of Dorchester, passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center after a brief illness.
 
 
 Born on January 30, 1937, in Plymouth, NH, she was the daughter of Leonard D. and Gertrude (Smith) Hammel. Peggy was raised in the Plymouth area attending local schools and graduating from Plymouth High School, Class of 1955.
 
 
 Throughout her life she was a dedicated homemaker, Peggy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, gardening, and was a great cook. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
 
 
 She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Albert B. "Ab" Carter, in June, 2013.
 
 
 Peggy is survived by her three children, Sharon Evans and her husband David, of Wentworth, Michael Carter and his wife Erin, of Thornton, and Candy Lizotte, of Epping; four sisters, Pearl Wanet and her husband Pete, of Meriden, CT, Phyllis Buck, of Acton, ME, Priscilla Kenney, also of Acton, and Sylvia Downing and her husband Leslie, of Belmont; a brother, Leonard D. Hammel and his wife Jolene, of Rumney; five grandchildren, Sandy, Dana, Karla, Cheyanne, and Aimee; four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
 
 
 A family graveside service will be held in the spring.
