Pauline V. Ambrose, 89, of Meredith, passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Laconia Genesis Eldercare Center after a lengthy illness. Born on July 7, 1919, in Sandwich, NH, she was the daughter of George and Ethel Vittum. Pauline graduated from the Quimby School, of Sandwich. Pauline was a lifetime member of the Legion Auxiliary, and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the "Rebeccas".  Pauline was well known for her homemade doll cakes, she loved to make fudge for her friends and neighbors. At home she was known as the "Lollipop Lady" by the neighborhood children, all of whom frequented her home to enjoy her treats and company. She was loved dearly by her family, and she was always very, very proud of them. She was considered by all who knew her to be "everybody's mother", often expressing caring concern, interest, and giving motherly advice when needed. Pauline is predeceased by her beloved husband, David G. Ambrose, formerly of Meredith, in 1989, three brothers, Carl, George, and Bill Vittum, and a sister, Virginia Montooth. She is survived by her loving sons, David "Skip" Ambrose, of Meredith, and Sonny and Sandy Ambrose, also of Meredith, two grandsons, Jake Ambrose, of Meredith, and T.J. and his wife Leah Ambrose, also of Meredith, two sisters, June Grouchmal, of Orman Beach, FL, and Cora Joe Wills, of Kittery, ME, a brother, Kenneth and his wife Eleanor Vittum, of Ellsworth, ME, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.Memorials:In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Laconia Genesis Eldercare Nursing Home, 175 Blueberry Lane, Laconia, NH 03246, or to the NH Humane Society.Visitation:Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 29, 2009 from 6 thru 8 pm at Mayhew Funeral Home, Rtes. 3 and 104 in Meredith. Service:A funeral service will be held at the 1st Congregational Church of Meredith on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 10:00 am. The Rev. Edward J. Charest, pastor of the Plymouth United Methodist Church, will officiate. Cemetery:Interment will follow at the Meredith Village Cemetery.
