Paul Anthony Riess

September 17, 1937 — December 24, 2014

Paul A. Riess, 77, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning at his home in Plymouth, New Hampshire. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Ellen Joy, as well as his son Michael and wife Martha, son Patrick and wife Cindy, daughter Darlene and husband Edwin, son Robert and wife Cathy, and four grandchildren.

One of twelve brothers and sisters, Paul was born on September seventeenth, 1937 in Boston, Massachusetts to Warren A. and Irene M. (Cormier) Riess and grew up in Wakefield, Massachusetts.

Paul joined the United States Army at the age of seventeen and was stationed in Germany during the Czech Revolution, where he became part of a country band that toured Germany, for which he earned the nickname, The Boston Cowboy.

After his time in the army, Paul came back to Reading, MA and started the original Riess Construction. In 1972, he and his family moved to Plymouth to remodel and open Ye Welcome Inn restaurant and, later, lounge on Route 3A. Paul, along with his wife and children, ran the restaurant until 1986. In 1983, he started Security Storage, a self-storage business, with his wife Joy, which continues to be operated by the Riess family today.

Paul was a ten-year member of the Plymouth Planning board. Upon hearing of his death, a family friend remarked that Paul was best known for his "high moral compass and family values."

Paul was an entertainer. He loved to sing and play his guitar, and tell stories and jokes. He was a good man with a laughing heart and he will be missed.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul's memory to Pemi-Baker Community Health and Hospice, 101 Boulder Point Drive, Suite #3, Plymouth, NH. 03264, in support of their work in our community.
