Patricia A. Pond

May 1, 1939 — September 2, 2017

Patricia A. Pond ("Pat") passed on September 2, 2017, with a heart full of joy and a feeling of deep gratitude for a full and vibrant life. She was the beloved wife of William Arden Pond for 20 years.

Born in Beverly, MA, Pat was the eldest daughter of the late Elliot Bates Comstock and Getrude Athleen Alexander Comstock. As a young woman, she attended the Brown School in Beverly and later the Walter Parker Jr. HS and Reading Memorial HS in Reading, MA before graduating with an Associate Degree in secretarial work from Fisher Jr. College in 1959. She moved to Meredith, NH in 1961 where she raised three children with her first husband, John Kent Bird, Sr. Each of her children have been a source of tremendous pride and immense joy.

Pat's loyal heart, her deep sense of fairness, her courteousness, her attention to detail and in "doing things right," her sense of dignity, her kindness and her respect for others permeated all that she pursued. These qualities were evident as early as her school years during which she was honored as a Juliette Low Girl by the Girl Scouts; was voted "Best All Around Girl," "Girl Most Likely to Succeed," and "Best Personality;" served as President of the Student Council; was a member of the National Honor Society; and was actively involved in The Order of Rainbow for Girls where she held numerous offices including Worthy Advisor. And these qualities continued into Pat's adult years during which, despite claiming she was not "a joiner," Pat taught Sunday School at the Meredith Congregational Church, was a sister of the P.E.O., and served as a Chairwoman for the American Cancer Society in Meredith, heading an annual campaign one year that was, not surprisingly for those who knew her, a huge success.

Pat was also the consummate recycler. She loved to thrift shop, find "treasures," and pass them along as the perfect, thoughtful gift. Pat was also a beautiful writer and her friends and family were fortunate to receive the gift of her thoughtful verse. Pat's presence will continue to ripple across the lives of her family and friends. She was adored, and she will be missed. We will miss her captivating and open smile, her bright humor, and her thoughtful way.

In addition to her husband William, she is survived by her son John K. Bird, Jr. and his wife Judi Bird of Meredith, NH and their family, Timothy, David, Michael, Wesley, Simon, and Edward; her daughter Martha A. Bird of Maplewood, NJ; her daughter Sarah S. Bird and her husband Robert J.S. Roriston of Summit, NJ and their family, Robert, Stephen, Chip, Mary, and Ava; and her sister Dianne Comstock Lakeman of Hernando, FL. She also leaves loving step-children, in-laws, nieces and nephews, and numerous devoted friends. She is predeceased by her sister Jean Comstock Anderson.

There is to be an informal celebration of life in Pat's memory at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Central New Hampshire VNA & Hospice and Lakes Region Visiting Nurse Association for which she was deeply grateful.
