Norwood Wright "Tilly" Tillson, 86, of 7 Sugar House Rd., Campton, died at his home on Saturday, February 26, 2011.He was born on July 19, 1924 in Walden, NY, the son of Harry Lyman and Leola (Myers) Tillson. He graduated from the Walden High School in 1942. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Pacific theatre in Guam from September 1944 through December 1945. He held the rank of Photographer's Mate, 1st Class, in the U.S. Navy. He has been predeceased by his parents and his elder brother, Llewellyn Myers "Lew" Tillson, of Grafton, NH.Over the course of his lifetime, "Tilly" worked a variety of trades: photography, appliance installation and maintenance, computer technology, general contracting, manufacturing supervision, theatre management, and will be remembered especially in the Plymouth area as the original owner of TAV Electronics. He was energetically devoted to the Plymouth Lions Club, holding all offices during his many years of membership. He was also the founding editor of its newsletter, "The Lion's Roar". He eventually edited the Lions' District newsletter for over ten years and presented a seminar on newsletter production and editing at the USA/Canada Lions Leadership Forum in Lexington, KY in 1998. He and his wife, Mildred, were members of St. Matthew's Church, Plymouth, often planning, coordinating, and preparing church suppers. They later attended St. Agnes Church, in Ashland. He was exceptionally proud of his ancestral heritage, dating from the colonial period in the United States and traceable to the Norman Conquest in England, often attending family reunions organized by the Tillson Genealogical Society, in Tillson, NY. He was known for his quick wit and sense of humor.Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mildred Clara Tillson, of Campton; two sons, Guy Frederick Tillson, of North Conway, and Bruce Charles Tillson, of Walden, NY; a grandson, Justin Scott Tillson, Sr., and two great-grandsons, Justin Scott Tillson, Jr. ("Jay") and Robert John Tillson, all of Walden, NY; two nieces and a nephew, Lois Tillson, Laura Veras and Howard Tillson, all of RI, and many cousins throughout New York and New England.Memorials:In lieu of flowers, "Tilly" asked that donations be made to the Plymouth Lions Club Charitable Trust to continue its humanitarian work.Service:There will be no calling hours. Services will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 3:00 pm in the Mayhew Funeral Home (12 Langdon St., Plymouth, NH). Guy Frederick Tillson will officiate.Cemetery:Interment will take place at the Tillson family plot in the Wallkill Valley Cemetery, in Walden, NY at a later date.
