Nancy Lagdon Thayer

Nancy Lagdon Thayer, 72, of Old North Main St, died April 28, 2009, at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia.     Born on May 27, 1936, in Portland ME, she was the daughter of Harry B and Alice [Johnston] Lagdon.          She was a graduate of Deering High School, class of 1954, and attended Gray's Business School.  She worked for World Insurance Company, in Portland, and the Portland Press Herald.       She married John R. Thayer, Windham, ME, on December 10, 1955, at Luke's Cathedral, in Portland ME.       In 1956, she moved to Columbus, OH, with her husband, where she worked in the Home Economics Department at the Ohio State University, while he attended graduate school.      After one year in Buffalo, NY, and five years in Laurel, Maryland, she moved to Scotch Plains, NJ, where she and her husband lived from 1965 to 1993.  In Westfield, she worked for thirteen years for the law firm of Hooley, Butler, DiFrancesco, and Kelly.           While living in New Jersey, she enjoyed the art of needlepoint.  Her home is decorated with ten of the beautiful masterpieces she created.  She also belonged to the Plainfield Camera Club, where she was awarded several first and second place ribbons.      She and her husband retired in 1993, moving to Meredith, where they built a colonial home, overlooking a beautiful preservation where moose, deer, bear, and other wild animals and birds were a daily attraction.  Shortly after moving to Meredith, she became a tour guide at Castle in the Clouds, in Moultonborough, remaining in that postion for a period of twelve years.  This was the highlight of her summer, and she had planned to return for the 2009 season.      In 2003, they decided to downsize their home, moving into a condominium at Woodgate Commons, Laconia.      She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Meredith.  It was here where she made many friends over the sixteen year period of her retirement in Meredith and Laconia.       She is survived by her husband, John R. Thayer of Laconia, a daughter, Karen Caporaso of Pt, Pleasant NJ, her children, John, Michael, and Rachel, a son, Craig Thayer and his wife Andrea of Boxford, MA, their children, Edison and Emerson, a son John Thayer and his wife Judy of Riverview, FL, and their son Jared. Memorials:In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Episcopal Church, PO Box 635, Meredith, NH. 03253.  Service:   A funeral service will be held in the Trinity Episcopal Church, Route #25, Meredith, on Friday at 2pm.  The Rev. Robin Soller, rector, will officiate. Cemetery:Burial will be held in the Brooklawn Memorial Park, Portland ME, on Monday at 11:30am.
