Nance F. Sanborn

Nance F. Sanborn, 75, of Sanborn Rd. in Plymouth, died peacefully at her home on Monday, March 1, 2010.  Nance was born in Littleton, NH on August 15, 1934, christened Anna Leona Fay.  Her parents were Leo and Mary Kelly Fay.  She moved to South Boston and then Newton, MA.  Nance went to Catholic schools early on and then attended Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, NH, where she met John G. Sanborn.  She married her high school sweetheart on August 15, 1952.In 1958, with a growing family of three children, they relocated to Plymouth, NH so John could attend Plymouth Teachers College, having two more children by 1960.  Nance worked nights as a waitress at Sprague Electric and I.P.C. in Ashland.  She later reversed roles and went to Plymouth Teachers College to obtain her teaching degree.  She taught primary education in Thornton, Bristol and Danbury.  She also worked for three years at Crotched Mtn. and later received her Masters Degree in Guidance.  She was lastly employed at the NH State Prison, where she worked with inmates teaching a variety of elementary subjects, high school classes to prepare them for GEDs and some college courses which were associated with Merrimack Valley High School and Granite State College.  Nance was very well respected by both the inmates and staff.Nance left her job at age 65 to retire.  Her hobbies included libraries, reading, bird watching, flowers, and countryside trips with husband John, including trips as far as Canada, Ohio and Georgia, as well as being a member of a local ladies group called "Stitch and Bitch."  Nance loved and was loved by her children and grandchildren.  She will always be remembered for her generous heart and wonderful sense of humor.  She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John Sanborn of Plymouth, four children - Susan of N. Woodstock, Shaun and Denise Sanborn of Gilford, Scott Sanborn of Indiana and Stuart and Mary Sanborn of Amherst; ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, her sister Martha Africa of California, her brother's wife Pat Fay of Maryland and her former daughter-in-law Lu-Ann Sanborn of Laconia.  Nance was predeceased by her oldest son Samuel and her brother David Fay.  Memorials:In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at 2 Commerce Drive in Bedford, NH 03220-6803 or the Audubon Society at 3 Silk Farm Road in Concord, NH 03301 Visitation:There will be calling hours at Mayhew Funeral Home, 12 Langdon St. in Plymouth on Thursday, March 4 from 2-4 pm.  Cemetery:An internment will be in the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at a later date.
