Michel Souperon passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on January 29, 2023, in Franklin, New Hampshire. He was 92.
Michel was born and raised in Bourges, France. At the age of 18 he set off on an adventure to New York City. Here he worked in the restaurant business as a waiter and married in 1951. By 1960 the family was off on yet another adventure. This time to New Hampshire where Michel and his wife opened up the Mont Blanc restaurant in Campton, NH, affectionately known as "Frenchy's" by the locals. Michel could always be found there serving up good food and conversing with the locals at the bar with a twinkle in his eye and laughter in his voice.
In 1979 Michel sold the restaurant and traveled to Houston where he was a maître d' at the Meridian hotel. After a few years he returned to New Hampshire where he worked at the Margate in Laconia and Maître Jacq in Francistown until the restaurant closed permanently.
Michel was a history buff and wine lover. He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of history while sharing a good bottle of wine.
Michel is survived by his son Robert Souperon, daughter Elaine Souperon, sister Geneviève Jozefowicz and brother Guy Souperon, grandchildren Nicole and Kate Beardsley and great grandson Dave Mercado.
He will be remembered for his warm smile and sense of humor as well as his generosity. He will be missed.
