Michael Weir Lewis

May 12, 1934 — July 15, 2015

Michael W. Lewis Sr., 81, of Stinson Lake, died peacefully at his home on July 15, 2015, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Mike was born on May 12, 1934 in White Plains, NY to his parents, Dr. Frank Sr. and Adelaide Robbins Lewis. As a child Mike and his family spent summers on beautiful Stinson Lake in Rumney,NH, a place he loved above all. He graduated from SUNY Delhi of New York in 1954 with a degree in Silvaculture. He married Reidun Skaar in 1963.

Mike worked as a tree surgeon in White Plains, NY and, during the summer months, a general store proprietor on Stinson Lake. In 1979, Mike and the family moved to Rumney year round. He retired in 2011.

Mike's great passions were his family and baseball, and equal to his passion was his talent. As a tall lefty he was known for his intensity and blazing fastball. He was drafted by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1955. An unfortunate knee injury ended his professional career, but he continued to play and dominate in local NH baseball leagues for years thereafter, highlighted by a New Hampshire amateur all-star game where he struck out 8 of 9 including an upcoming New Hampshire great, Carlton Fisk.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Francis "Luke" Lewis.

Mike is survived by his wife, Reidun Lewis of Rumney, NH; his children, Michael Jr. of Rumney, NH, Christine and her husband Michael Manning of Rumney, NH, Timothy and wife LeeAnn of Rumney, NH, and Andrew and wife Camille of Milton, MA; his sister, Aryann Hamilton and husband Alan of Lockport, NY; and 3 grandchildren, Courtney, Kelsey, and Bella.
