MEREDITH --- Michael Jonathan Elliott Campbell, 84, passed away on Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Meredith, NH.
Born November 23rd,1939 in Chester, England, Michael Jonathan Elliott Campbell was the son
of Major Richard Michael Campbell and Beatrice Elliott Campbell. His father served in The
Black Watch in Scotland in World War II. As a baby, Michael and his mother survived the
bombing of London during the Blitz after which his family moved to a farm in Newport, Fife,
where he enjoyed growing up in the Scottish countryside. Unfortunately his father was killed in
action in Italy and eventually he and his mother, Beatrice emigrated to her family house in
Laconia, New Hampshire.
Michael (also known as Jonathan by his early friends) attended Bishops Stortford College in
England and Laconia High School. He continued onto the University New Hampshire where he
achieved a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. He proceeded to work for Goodyear Tire and
Rubber, Cabot Corporation and Nashua Corporation. He eventually returned to graduate
school and earned a Masters of Science in Management from Massachusetts Institute of
Technology. From there, he started a business to develop non-invasive technology for personal
care companies and research hospitals to measure the skin. He pioneered direct data
download to a personal computer to create product or experiment databases for these areas.
The product created a non-invasive research technology market that moved the process away
from animal testing during the late 1970s and 1980s and continues to evolve today.
A devoted husband and innovator, Michael enjoyed his time with his beloved wife Kay and his
doggies. He was an avid reader and involved in local and regional politics. He loved his
children and spending time at his family house in Laconia.
He leaves a son Michael Patrick Campbell and daughter-in-law Yasmine Mahdavi of New York,
daughter Sarah Katharine Campbell and son-in-law James Goundrey of New Hampshire, and
grandchildren Ian Campbell, Charlotte Campbell, Adelaide Goundrey and Alastair Goundrey.
A graveside service will be on Saturday, June 7th at 10am at Meredith Village Cemetery,
Meredith, NH. In the event of foul weather, It will be held on Sunday, June 8th at 2:00pm. In lieu
of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
