Merton Robin Grant

Merton Robin Grant, 90, of Glidden Road, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012 at his home after a long illness.

Born in Weymouth, MA on June 4, 1922, he was the son of Merton W. and Bessie (Oliver) Grant. Merton was raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School, class of 1940. He graduated from the Franklin Technical Institute, in Boston and was also a World War II US Navy Veteran. Merton resided in the Pembroke, MA for many years before moving to Moultonborough in 1987.

He worked as a structural engineer for the Concrete Steel Company, in Boston, for seventeen years and then as manager of the American Hardware Store, in Duxbury, MA. After moving to New Hampshire, he worked as a pilot of the "Sophie C" mail boat delivering mail on Lake Winnipesaukee.

Merton was a member of the Moultonborough Methodist Church and the Moultonborough Lions Club. In Pembroke, MA, he served on the Pembroke Fire Department as a full time fire fighter for twelve years and as an on call fireman for twenty-seven years. He also served on the Pembroke Finance Committee.

He was predeceased by his wife of sixty years, Betty (Ireland) Grant, who died in December of 2003.

Merton is survived by his son, Glenn D. Grant, of San Jose, CA, and his daughter Phyllis J. Grant, of Moultonborough.

It was Merton's wish that no services be held.
