Mary Mildred Woodaman

CENTER HARBOR---Mary Woodaman, (94) passed away at Lakes Region General Hospital on January 23, 2017.

Mary was born on January 27, 1922 in Muncie, Indiana the daughter of Jesse and Ella (Menard) Veach. Mary attended high school in Muncie, graduating in 1941. After high school, she worked for WPA, until she enlisted in the United States Naval Reserve, training as an aviation mechanist mate 3 at Hunter College, in spring of 1943 serving during World War II. She worked on airplanes at Fen Naval Air stations (NAS) until her discharge in 1946.

In 1946 she married Lewis E. Woodaman, Jr. at Fort Wayne, Indiana, who was also serving in the United States Navy during World War II. They lived in Massachusetts for several years and moved to New Hampshire with their four children; Beverly, Lewis, Michael and Greg. Lewis, her husband, taught at Interlakes High School for several decades. Mary became involved in the Girl Scouts and pioneered UNH women's extension services. She taught Class for UNH in rug braiding, upholstery and canning.

They ran a seasonal business on Lake Winnipesaukee for 6 decades.

She had 5 grandchildren; Heather and Bill Hett, Greg, Ali and Becca Woodaman, 4 great grandchildren; Cameron and Anna Hett, James Horne, Oliver Hutchins and one on the way in July. She was loved by her family and known as the Queen of Huggers, AKA Meme.

A Mass for Christian Burial will be held on Friday January 27, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Charles Borromeo, 300 NH- 25, Meredith, New Hampshire. 03253.
