Mary T. Smith

November 26, 1944 — April 29, 2024

Mary Theda Smith 79, of Bridgewater, NH passed away peacefully on the morning of April 29,
2024.

Mary was born on November 26, 1944 in Plymouth, NH. She was the daughter of the late Paul
B. Torsey and Mary Elizabeth (Atwood) Torsey.

Mary grew up on Torsey Farms where she lived most of her life. As a farm family there was
quite an age gap. Her younger siblings have many fond memories of her caring for them in her
teenage years. Whether it was taking Cindy up to see the milkman or cuddling with Diane in
the winter to keep her warm as they shared a bed. The old grey goose apparently was the car
of choice back then.

She and her husband Duane (Butch) married on April 18,1964 in Campton. It was a very small
ceremony. In July of that same year Gina Marie was born. And 2 years later Randy Scott was
born. As it has been quoted "her greatest accomplishments were her children and family".
They lived quite a few years in Beebe River but later returned to Bridgewater Mountain when
their children were small. On their 25th wedding anniversary their family planned a surprise
party that also inlcuded the renewal of their vows and the original witnesses to their wedding.
She was a very hard worker and spent many years working for Plymouth Stitching, as well for
Watts Regulator Company where she later retired.

Butch and Mary spent their summers on their motorcycle traveling all over New Hampshire and
to other states for rallies. They had a love for camping which began at The Cogwood
Campground on River Road in Bridgewater where they held a seasonal spot for many years.
Their camping adventures escalated from pop up, to motorhome, to eventually an RV. They
shared a love for all things camping, NASCAR (Mary held a special place in her heart for the
one and only Dale Earnhardt), and also Bluegrass. A family favorite was at Branch Brook
Campground in Campton and of course New Hampshire Motor Speedway for the yearly
NASCAR race. Even after the passing of Butch in March of 2014 she continued to drive the RV
herself to her favorite bluegrass festivals. It wasn't until after a couple minor mishaps that she
finally decided to retire her career as an RV driver.

Mary is best described as one of the most fun, loyal and reliable people you would ever meet.
Family or not she was among the greatest a friend could have, and to her grandchildren the
salt of the earth. She had the ability to hold face through the hardest of times.

As well as her husband and parents Mary was predeceased by her brother Stanley Torsey,
sister Elaine (Atwood) Davis, and brother Guy Torsey.

Mary is survived by her daughter Gina Morrison and husband Joseph. Her son Randy Smith
and wife Wendy. Brother Terry Torsey and wife Whatleigh. Sister Diane Strong and husband
Rick. Sister Cynthia Beard and her husband Stanley. Granddaughter Tracy (Morrison) Webber
and husband Adam. Grandson Joseph Morrison and wife Allison. Grandson Wescott Smith and
wife Kathryn. Grandson Riley Smith. She also had 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister in-law of the late Jumbo Smith. As well as sister in-law Carol Wallace and husband William.
Mary had countless nieces, nephews, cousins etc. too many to count. But she loved you all.

We would like to extend a special thank you to our family on the mountain for always looking
after Mary. It means the world to us that you all took such special care of not only her but her
furry friends as well.
