MOULTONBOROUGH---Mary T. Golab, 93 1/2, of Moultonborough, NH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at Brookdale Sprucewood Senior Living Facility, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on July 15, 1930 in Boston, Mass, to William and Anna (O’Neill) Coughlin of Dorchester, MA. She is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Joseph S. Golab. She leaves three children; Linda T.and her husband Leslie J. Howlett, III of Milton, NH, Wayne J. Golab and his wife Marie, of Methuen, MA, and Karen M. Golab, of Milton, NH. She was the loving Nana of six grandchildren and their significant others; Emily V. (Howlett) Reynolds and her husband Gardiner B. Reynolds IV, Sean C. Howlett and his wife Jessica, David L. Howlett and Kristin Cobbs, Michael J. Howlett and his fiancee Danielle Paradiso, Ashley R. (Golab) Leissing and her husband Matthew R. Leissing, and Matthew C. Golab. She was the special great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren; Gardiner B. Reynolds V, Logan J. Reynolds, Breccan L. Reynolds, Baylee K. Howlett, Henry T. Leissing, and Charlie E.Leissing. She is survived by her sister Dorothea Taaffe of Bradenton, FL., as well as many dear nieces and nephews.
Mary attended Sts. Peter & Paul High School in Dorchester, MA, and graduated at the young age of 16 years old. She then began working as a Candy Striper Aide at Carney Hospital in Dorchester, MA. She worked at Dun & Bradstreet as a Secretary, and at Arthur D. Little in Boston as a Security Guard. She then took a job at Melpar in Boston, as an assistant to Engineering, where she met her husband Joe, who was an Electronic and Aeronautics Engineer. Mary and Joe married 6 months later on May 4, 1957 at St. Ann’s Church, Dorchester, MA. After her children were born, she went to work at Richardson Drug Store in Concord. MA as a Bookkeeper. From there, she began to work at J.P.Nourse Co., a clothing store in Concord, MA, first as a store clerk, advancing to Store Buyer. After this, Mary went to work for Sentry Insurance in Concord, MA as an Executive Secretary.
Once Mary and Joe retired, they chose to live 6 months in Carlisle, MA, and 6 months in Nokomis, FL. When in NH, Mary worked many years on the M/S Mount Washington on Lake Winnipesaukee, NH, both on the buffet and in the gift shop. When in FL, Mary volunteered in the office in accounting for The Epiphany Cathedral of Venice, FL. She continued working well into her late 80’s.
Mary also volunteered for many groups, including St. Irene’s Women’s Club, Carlisle, MA, and Moultonborough NH Historical Society. She also supported Joe in the Elks’ Auxiliary, NH, and the Polish American Club, Venice, FL.
Mary and Joe traveled extensively, but were always happy to return to their beloved cottage “at the lake”, on Lake Winnipesaukee, Moultonborough, NH.
Mary was a communicant at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Durham, NH, St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Meredith, NH, and Epiphany Cathedral, Venice, FL.
With tremendous gratitude, Mary’s family would like to express their most heartfelt thanks to all who cared for Mary during her later years; Brookdale Sprucewood Senior Living Facility, Durham, NH, Brookhaven Hospice, Portsmouth, NH, and Interim Healthcare. All helped to make Mary’s later years fulfilling and comfortable.
Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Mary’s life during the calling hours of 9 am – 10:15 am on March 20, 2024 at Mayhew Funeral Home, 204 Daniel Webster Highway, (Rte. 3 & 104), Meredith, NH, before leaving in procession to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 300 Rte. 125, Meredith, NH for an 11:00 am Mass of Christian Burial. Internment will follow at the Shannon Cemetery, Rte. 109, Moultonboro, NH.
