Marjorie Ellen Uhlman Broad

Marjorie Ellen Uhlman Broad, 96, of Thornton passed away peacefully at Speare Memorial Hospital on September 26, 2012 after a brief illness.

She was born in Campton, NH on February 21, 1916, the daughter of Archibald and Nora (Emery) McCoy. Born and raised in Campton, she attended Campton Elementary Schools. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1933 and graduated from Plymouth Normal School in 1936. She returned to college later in her life and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education in 1963 from Plymouth State College.

Marjorie taught school for 27 years at Atwell Hill School in Wentworth, Woodstock School, Beebe River School and Campton Elementary School. Marjorie retired from her teaching career at Campton School in 1978 to care for her husband, Carl. Several of her grandchildren have followed in her footsteps and have become teachers. She was very proud they loved her passion for teaching.

In 1938 she married Leroy P. Uhlman I, who passed away in 1952.
In 1963 she married Carl Broad and he shared nearly 40 years with the family as "Grampy". Carl passed away in 2003 at the Grafton County Nursing Home.

She loved baking, especially cookies for all the grandchildren that would come to visit. Even grandchildren's friends called her Grammie, and they also knew right where the cookie jar was, along with the famous candy basket.

She was always crocheting an afghan for a family member or friend. Her beautiful afghans have been sent all around the country. She has made over 150 of these afghans. She loved making and giving them away.
She loved her family with all her heart, and enjoyed spending time with all her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great-great grandchildren.
Marjorie is a member of the Campton Baptist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was also added to the Cradle Roll at the Campton Baptist Church when she was one year old. She was also a member of the Pemigewassett Fire Warden's Assn., and the Campton Historical Society.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Leroy Parker Uhlman I, her son, Robert (Buzz) Uhlman, her second husband, Carl Broad and her daughter, Nancy Williams, and her sisters, Nina Connolly and Eleanor Kane. She was also predeceased by son-in-laws, Mark Pendoley, Fred Hobbs, and Percy Madore.

Marjorie is survived by her children; Mary Ann Madore of Plymouth, Jean Brosseau of Thornton, Marjorie Ellen Hobbs of Billerica, Ma., Leroy Parker Uhlman II(Carol) of Thornton, Carol Vanini(Mario)of Plymouth, Virginia Dunstan(Gary), Pauline Burbank(Butch), James Uhlman (Marlene), Rosalie Pendoley, Alan Uhlman(Kathy) and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Uhlman all of Thornton, 36 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren, brother, Robert McCoy of Grenada, CA., and sister, Doris Phinney of Lowell, MA., several nieces and nephews.
