Marie Connell

September 10, 1940 — April 5, 2015

MOULTONBOROUGH --- Marie Connell passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5th, after a long illness. Marie was born on September 10, 1940 in Hawthorne, California, the daughter of Anthony and Elizabeth Schmidt (Woog) and the 8th child of their 8 children.

Marie was a graduate of Northeast Missouri State University and became a beloved teacher to many students over the years. An avid reader, she also realized her dream of owning and operating a bookstore when she opened Marie's Book Barn in Presque Isle, Maine.

Marie retired from teaching at Limestone, Maine in 1994, and in 1998 moved to Moultonborough NH. She continued to keep herself busy by remaining very active and involved with her children and grandchildren. She loved training and playing with her beloved dogs. For many years, she was treasurer for the Wentworth Acres Home Association.

Marie is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Charles (Chuck) Connell of Moultonborough, NH; two sisters, Helen Fisk and Katherine Schmidt, and two brothers, Anthony Schmidt, and Alex Schmidt; her children, Tracy Marie Holloway (Kemp), Diane Elizabeth Holloway (Moreno) and Laura Catherine Holloway (Bracken); two stepchildren, Charles E.(Casey) Connell II and Melissa Anne Connell (McSweeney); and, three grandchildren, Alissa Moreno, Abigail Moreno and Allison Bracken and six step-grandchildren, Ashley Connell, Robert Connell, Charles E. Connell III, Katlyn McSweeney, Steven McSweeney and Christopher Sanchez.

She was pre-deceased by her parents Anthony and Elizabeth Schmidt, her first husband Jack Holloway, her sister Betty Schmidt and two brothers, Carl and Frank Schmidt.

There will be no calling hours; Services will be private at an undetermined date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to the New Hampshire Humane Society, Laconia, NH.
