Marie Eglantine Browher

August 20, 1923 — January 19, 2015

Marie E. Browher, 91, died peacefully in her daughter's home on Sunday, January 19, 2015.

She was born in Manchester, NH on August 20, 1923, the daughter of Eglantine (Allard) and Albert Prince. She was proud of her French Canadian heritage. Living on the west side of Manchester, she attended Saint Marie's Catholic School and Church. Marie worked in the Manchester's mayor office and in the Veteran's Affairs Office registering young men for service during World War II. As a young adult, Marie took classes at The Arthur Murray School of Dance in New York.

An adventurous woman of her time, she traveled the country, even flying to Havana, Cuba, with her best friend, Effie, in 1947. That same year, Marie moved to Georgia to work in room service and as a waitress at the Cloister Hotel on Sea Island, where George and Barbara Bush spent their honeymoon two years earlier. She met her future husband on nearby Saint Simon's Island where he was a musician in a band at the King and Prince Hotel; they were married on August 1, 1950 at St. William's Catholic Church on Saint Simon's Island. They settled in Brunswick, GA, where Marie devoted her time to raising her family.

In 1974, they moved to Meredith, NH, where she enjoyed gardening and tending her pet geese in their large backyard. A communicant of Saint Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, in Meredith, Marie was the organist for nearly twenty years. As a prayerful woman, Marie had a special devotion to Mary, The Blessed Mother of God.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 64 years, Walter T. Browher, of Meredith; sons, Chris Browher and his wife Lynn, of Laconia, Michael Browher and his wife Patty, of Meredith; daughter, Celeste Woodbury and husband Jim, of Belmont; brother-in-law, Roger Browher; sister-in-laws, Virginia Browher Lipthratt, and Eleanor Browher Miller, of Brunswick, Georgia. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, plus eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Care Net Pregnancy Center of the Lakes Region, 506 Union Ave., Laconia, NH 03246
