Marguerite Rose Bourgeois

June 23, 1937 — July 14, 2025

MEREDITH --- Marguerite (Brazeil) Bourgeois passed away peacefully at home in Meredith, NH, on July 14, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of sixty-five years, Gerald Bourgeois, who passed away on June 18, 2025. She was born on June 23, 1937, in Providence, RI to the late Rose Anne (Birnie) Brazeil of Providence, RI, and Thomas Francis Brazeil of Bridgeport, CT.

Marguerite grew up in Cranston and Providence, RI, where she attended St. Paul’s School in Cranston, St. Xavier’s Academy, and Rhode Island College, where she graduated with honors. She began her career teaching English and History in Providence and Stonington, CT.

Marguerite stepped away from her career to raise her four sons in Attleboro, MA. She led a Cub Scout pack, cheered at countless sporting events, and kept the home running smoothly.

After returning to the workforce, she joined the Balfour Company in Attleboro as an administrative assistant to the Director of Human Resources. Following the family’s move to New Hampshire in 1981, she chose not to work in the district where her husband was superintendent. Instead, she joined the Career Center at Plymouth State College (now Plymouth State University), where she earned her M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling in 1986—sharing the graduation stage with her son Gerald, who received his B.A. in English.

Her counseling degree led to a fulfilling fourteen-year career at the Career Development Center at New Hampshire College (now Southern New Hampshire University) in Manchester, NH. She retired as Associate Director, then returned part-time to create an employee manual for the school’s improvement plan.

A lifelong Red Sox and Patriots fan, she added soccer to her list of interests thanks to her grandchildren and loved participating in the family’s fantasy football league.

She played the piano for many years and passed her love of music on to her children. Her musical tastes were broad and ever-expanding, something her entire family appreciated and enjoyed.

Marguerite and Gerald traveled widely throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe including visits to England, Ireland, Scotland, Italy, and France. They especially enjoyed attending the Tattoo in Nova Scotia and the 2000 Tattoo in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Marguerite is survived by her four sons: Brian Bourgeois of Meredith, NH; Gerald Bourgeois and his partner Erin Mackey of Bedford, NH; Michael Bourgeois and wife Julie Gnerre-Bourgeois of Meredith, NH, and Matthew Bourgeois and wife Kelly of Wesley Chapel, NC. She also leaves behind four grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Brittany Bourgeois-Munzing, husband Nate, great granddaughter Mackenzie and great grandson Theodore of Hallowell, ME; Caroline Bourgeois of Narragansett, RI; Kathryn Bourgeois of Wesley Chapel, NC, and Hayden Bourgeois of Meredith, NH.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 28, at 10:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo, 300 NH Rt 25, Meredith, NH. A procession will follow to Oakland Cemetery, Meredith, NH, with a celebration of life immediately following at Giuseppi’s Pizzeria & Restaurante in Meredith.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakes Region VNA, 186 Waukewan St, #6023, Meredith, NH 03253 in appreciation for their exceptional care. We are especially grateful to Brooke and Abby, whose kindness and expertise made a profound difference in Marguerite’s final days.
