Louise Gilbertson Traunstein, 91, of Plymouth, New Hampshire, passed away quietly on June 20th, 2017, at her home.
Louise was born in Medford, MA on October 17,1925. After attending Boston Public Schools, Boston University and Simmons College, she became an elementary school teacher for the Boston Public Schools and enjoyed every minute of her 22 year career there.
Louise also enjoyed the many years she spent on the weekends in Groton, NH. In 1990, she retired to Plymouth, NH with her husband, mother, and son. They wished to be near their old farm house in Groton. When her husband passed in 1997, Louise found a way to have their 1792 farm house restored. She then became a major participant in the Groton Historical Society. Louise went on to help the Groton Historical Society restore the one room school house #4, which then became the Historical Society's museum. She loved being a member of the GHS board, and held several offices over the years, including that of president and volunteer archivist.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband Russell Murdoch Traunstein, her parents, Murtie (Turcott) Gilbertson and Charles I Gilbertson; her brother Richard Gilbertson, her son Steven Traunstein and her son-in-law Rick Garner.
Louise is survived by her brother, Clayton Gilbertson, her daughter Leslie Traunstein Garner, her grandson Christopher Garner, his wife Kerry Garner, their son Mitchell, many nieces, nephews and dear, dear friends.
Services will be graveside at Pleasant View Cemetery in Rumney, on Saturday July 8th at 2 p.m. The Rev. Brenda Wentworth will officiate.
