Linda Jean Marrer, 63 of Smith Road, Holderness, NH died August 5, 2017 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Lebanon, NH., following a brief illness.
Linda was born in Aguadilla, PR on February 22, 1954, the daughter of Mary Jane and Kenneth Marrer.
Linda grew up in Plymouth, NH and Lynnfield, MA. She graduated from Lynnfield High School and Plymouth State College.
A versatile, multi-sport athlete from an era when women's athletics was just beginning to blossom, Linda Marrer played five sports at Plymouth State, making her biggest mark in field hockey. She was a physical education major and four-year varsity hockey player ('73-76), serving as team captain her senior year. She scored six goals in a game against Salem State in 1973, a PSC mark that still stands today. That earned her PSC Athlete of the week, the first woman to receive that honor.
Linda played two years for the Panther basketball, and a season each on skiing, softball and lacrosse teams. She remained active after college coaching field hockey at Plymouth High School and softball at Plymouth State.
Linda was inducted into the Plymouth State College Athletic Hall of Fame October 1997.
After college, she was Recreation Director at Steele Hill Resort, Sanbornton, NH for 14 years and then moved to Cold Spring Resort, Plymouth, NH as Recreation Director for 21 years. She retired December 2016.
Linda was an avid gardener and loved her kitties and the many friends she cultivated during her tenures as Recreation Director and as a resident of the Plymouth area. She was well loved by many friends and her family.
Linda is survived by her mother, Mary Jane Marrer of Holderness, NH; siblings Susanne (Marrer) and Kurt Strasen of Mont Vernon, NH; Nancy Marrer and Lisa Ford of Penfield, NY; and Michael Marrer of Holderness, NH; nieces and nephews Jacob and Lilly Marrer, Shane Marrer and great niece Avalon Marrer; her longtime partner Brenda Brown of Campton, NH and her children Tiffany and Heidi Brown and their children Nick, Denae, Mady and Andy; and longtime close friend Pete Messina of Norwich CT.
Linda is predeceased by her father, Dr. Kenneth P. Marrer and her nephew, Jason Marrer.
A Private Burial will be held at Trinity Churchyard Cemetery, Holderness, on August 19th. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 19th from 2-5pm at her mother's home on 82 Smith Road, Holderness, NH
