Obituary

RUMNEY --- Lawrence E. Tingley, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Rumney, New Hampshire, on Thursday, June 25, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born on September 12, 1940, in Easton, Massachusetts. He graduated from Oliver Ames High School and later from Tufts University. Lawrence married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth, beginning a loving partnership that endured for 62 wonderful years. He devoted his career to serving his country for 24 years as an officer in the United States Air Force.

Following his retirement, Lawrence designed and hand-built the family home in Rumney, where he embraced the life he cherished most. He spent his years serving as a docent at the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center, actively participating in his church community, hiking the local mountains, taking on countless DIY projects, volunteering at the Speare Memorial Hospital and traveling to visit his children and their families all over the country and world.

Lawrence was the devoted patriarch of a large and loving family. He carried a calm, quiet presence and a deep curiosity about the world that he generously shared with everyone around him, especially his grandchildren. They will always remember their Poppa for his playful spirit, gentle wisdom, and his endless ability to teach them something new and fascinating.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth; his brother, John; his children, Lawrence, Brian, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Christopher, and Jacob; 15 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation, Mass, and a reception afterward will be held at St. Matthew's Church in Plymouth on Tuesday, July 7, beginning at 10:00 AM. A brief graveside memorial will occur at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH, on Wednesday at 11:00 AM.

Donations in Lawrence's memory to the Squam Lakes Natural Science Center or to food banks serving the Plymouth area would be very much appreciated by the family.
