RUMNEY – Kevin Thomas McQueeney, 36, died unexpectedly at his home in Rumney, NH, on November 6, 2024, due to a diabetic crisis.
He leaves his parents, Valerie and Kevin McQueeney, Sr. of Rumney, NH; a brother, Ryan McQueeney of Campton, NH; and three sisters: Katrina Olds of San Francisco, CA, Jamie Bonchu of Elyria, OH, and Megan Bly of Concord, NH, along with 11 nieces and nephews. He also leaves his beloved dog Maizy, who laid with him at the time of his passing.
Kevin was born in Plymouth, NH on September 1, 1988. He grew up in Thornton, NH, attended Thornton Central School and graduated from Plymouth Regional High School in 2006. He went on to study for two years at New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, where he won an award for his French language skills. He later transferred to Plymouth State University where he worked toward a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology.
Kevin moved to Warren, Massachusetts in 2012. He spent 10 years in that area and worked in Food Services at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst. He returned to the family home in Rumney, NH in 2021. He was employed at Tractor Supply in Plymouth, NH for a time, before becoming a landscaper with Clement’s Nursery & Landscape. He was employed at Clement’s at the time of his death.
Kevin loved nature and was happiest among the mountains and rivers of New Hampshire. He loved working outdoors. He particularly enjoyed gardening and would spend many hours working the land and coaxing vegetables to grow at his mountainside home. This included building small stone walls to support hillside terracing on a part of the property.
At age 16 he began what was to be a long struggle with Type 1 diabetes. The disease was particularly difficult to control and it closed many doors for his future. He dodged death countless times over the years before a devastatingly low blood sugar took his life.
Kevin was a kind and gentle person. He was quiet and generally reserved and struggled to engage with people other than those who were close to him. He loved his family and was a devoted son. He helped his parents with errands, household tasks, and outdoor jobs that had become difficult for them. He was well-loved; he will be deeply missed.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 21 at 2 pm, at the Starr King Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Fairgrounds Rd in Plymouth, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made toward funeral expenses at
