Kenneth Randall Hill

May 2, 1929 — March 15, 2014

KENNETH RANDALL HILL, 84 years old, passed peacefully on March 14, 2014 at Lakes Region General Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Ken was born and raised in Camden, Maine, where he attended local schools. In 1946, he enlisted in the army as a parachutist. He was injured and was honorably discharged in 1948. He traveled to Minnesota to stay with his sister and her husband. At a dance, he met the love of his life, Dolores Berg Hill. They married and settled in Madelia, Minnesota. Ken was a plumber by trade but also worked as a part time police officer. He soon became a full time officer and then for many years served as the Chief of Police of Madelia. He always yearned to return to New England and in 1970 he moved the family to Meredith, NH where he was hired as a Sergeant on the Meredith Police Force. After years with the Meredith force, Ken decided he had been in law enforcement long enough and went to work for the Town of Meredith Highway Department as a loader operator. After about two years in that job, he was asked by the town manager to step in and take over as Superintendent of the Meredith Water Department. He held that job until his retirement.

Ken was predeceased by his wife, Dolores, his sisters, Doris Gosen and Atherine Hill and brothers, Elmer, Walter and Norman Hill and a grandson, Wesley Haigh. He is survived by his five children: Monica Bennett (and husband, Steve), Connie Bickford (husband, Dennis); Karen Finer; Robert K. Hill (wife, Irene); Janice Dennis (husband, Mickey); Thirteen grandchildren: Kelly Bennett-Huckins (husband, William), Michelle Goodearl (husband, Mark), Jennifer Salamanca (husband, AJ), Matt Bickford (wife, Nancy), Deborah Dow (husband, Rodney), Jenna Bickford, Debbie Bickford, Alissa Finer Brown (Phil Day), Brian Finer, Becky Grinavic (husband, Brian), Candi Allen (husband, Jeremy), Kenneth W. Hill and Jessica Haigh Rogers. He also leaves 19 great grandchildren: Alex and Andy Goodearl; Anthony, Julianna and Noah Salamanca; Ethan and Wesley Bickford; Christian, Amelia and Danica Dow; Lauren and Kaleb Grinavic, Mckenna Allen, Chelsea Brown and Madilynne Day; Austin, Brelan, Devlon and Joshua Rogers.

Ken loved camping, fishing, hunting, painting and especially loved dogs. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ken's honor to the Disabled Vets/NH Veteran's Home or NH Humane Society.
