Joseph "Jay" Paul Tivnan, 71, of Laconia, NH., died February 20, 2018, at his home after a long illness
Born in Worcester, MA. on February 2, 1947, he was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Charron) Tivnan.
Jay grew up in West Boylston, MA and graduated from West Boylston High School. He also was a graduate of Providence College, Providence, RI., where he went to on a scholarship to play hockey. Jay resided in Massachusetts for many years and in 1992, he and his family started to summer in the Lakes Region Area. In 2002, Jay moved to Meredith and has spent the past eight years in Laconia.
Jay owned and operated Sani-mate Supply Company, which his father started, in Worcester, MA. for many years, until his retirement in 2002. During his retirement, Jay worked at Ragged Mountain Ski Area, in Danbury, Waterville Valley Ski Resort, in Waterville Valley, the NH Speedway, in Loudon, and Meadowbrook, in Gilford.
Jay was an avid hockey fan and he enjoyed the outdoors, boating, and skiing.
Jay was predeceased by two brothers, Terrence and Michael Tivnan.
Jay is survived by his wife of forty-four years, Christine (Hamilton) Tivnan, of Laconia, his sons, Shawn P. Tivnan and his wife Liz, of Somerset, MA., Adam J. Tivnan and his fiancé Kelley, of Johnston, RI., his three grandchildren, Connor, Luke, Jimmy, his brother, Paul Tivnan of Rutland, MA., his sisters, Nancy St Cyr of Worcester, MA., Susan Tivnan of West Boylston, MA., Joan Tivnan of Worcester, MA., many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the Mayhew Funeral Home, 204 Daniel Webster HWY., Meredith, on Saturday, Feb. 24th, from 1pm to 3pm. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
